The National Law Journal has recognized Firm Central as a best cloud-based law practice management software solution for 2018.

The seventh-annual awards are based on the responses of roughly 7,500 readers who were asked to cast their votes for the top providers of goods and services in the legal profession. The ballot had several dozen categories ranging from finance to technology to outsourced services. The winners appeared in The National Law Journal Best of 2018 publication, which showcases businesses that stand out among their competitors.

"We’re honored that lawyers are recognizing Firm Central as a top law practice management software solution," says Dhananjay Nagalkar, Thomson Reuters Global Head of Practice Management Solutions.

"It’s especially rewarding because we’re dedicated to being partners with them. We appreciate that they’re making a positive impact on the world every day, whether they practice estate planning or criminal law or litigation. Everything we do is focused on helping them achieve their goals more easily and efficiently.”

Nicole Mayer, Esq., Thomson Reuters Director of Product Management for Firm Central, concurs.

“We’ve added a lot of customer-driven enhancements over the years, and we’re very excited that our customers recognize this,” she says. “This award reflects the strong partnership we have with them.”

This partnership is supported by:

Constant communication

Every feature in Firm Central law practice management began in the mind of lawyers, says Mayer. Before the product was even developed, the Firm Central product developers met with lawyers from small and solo law firms to discuss how they managed their practice.

That conversation has never stopped.

“There is constant two-way communication,” explains Mayer. “We definitely have law firms and solo attorneys, who we know well, but what’s unique about the small-law space is every law firm, jurisdiction and practice area has their own way that they like to manage their firm, so we gather customer feedback in a variety of ways.”

This includes everything from direct customer comments to focus groups to beta groups to annual events that bring small-law attorneys to the Thomson Reuters headquarters.

“Thomson Reuters is obviously a very well-known brand and people who aren’t familiar with us may perceive us as a big nameless, faceless company,” notes Mayer. “But our Firm Central team is like a small company within a large one. So when we receive customer feedback, whether that’s from a lawyer who submits a comment directly from Firm Central or calls their dedicated support representative, every team member can see that comment and we do our best to respond promptly.”

A development team made up of both lawyers and technical experts

“No one else matches Firm Central’s equilibrium of legal and technical expertise,” says Nagalkar. “This is a platform built by lawyers for lawyers. Furthermore, Thomson Reuters has a long, rich history of serving lawyers.”

Mayer admits that when she started out in law school as a clerk for a family-law practitioner, she would have never imagined how her career would come full circle.

“I remember when my boss would go south for a couple of weeks in the winter. Because she was a sole practitioner, she couldn’t afford to be away from her business so we had to pack a suitcase with all of her case files,” she recalls. “This experience helps me feel the pain of our customers; I’ve been in their shoes.

“Today, it’s beyond exciting and satisfying for me to play a part in giving lawyers the means to work from anywhere.”

Integrations that enable a seamless, streamlined workflow from intake to invoicing

“In the law firm space, only Firm Central provides a seamless, end-to- end practice management solution,” says Nagalkar. “It marries the practice of law and business of law, so you can get all of the functionality to both manage your firm and manage your matters in a single solution.”

Continuous improvement

“We measure ourselves on the value we bring to our customers in terms of the revenues Firm Central generates for them, and the money, time and resources it saves them,” says Nagalkar. “But our key measure is customer satisfaction. That’s why we are continuously monitoring and improving our product. When you subscribe to Firm Central, you can be assured that the product will only improve.”

Mayer agrees.

“We’re always trying to add more flexibility in Firm Central. We want to give lawyers and paralegals more time to focus on their clients and providing excellent service, instead of worrying about whether an invoice has been paid, a deadline is calendared correctly, or a citation is still good law. Firm Central keeps track of that – and much more - for them.”
