Litigation Sources

Monitor Suite retrieves information about lawyers, law firms, roles, representation and parties from Westlaw documents, including case opinions and dockets, as follows:

  • US federal circuit court dockets filed in all US Courts of Appeals, from 1998 to present, updated daily
  • US federal district court dockets on active and inactive civil and criminal cases filed in US district courts nationwide, from 1990 to present, updated daily
  • Federal caselaw decisions from the US Supreme Court, courts of appeals, former circuit courts, district courts, bankruptcy courts, former Court of Claims, Court of Federal Claims, Tax Court, related federal courts and military courts, from 1990 to present, updated daily
  • State caselaw decisions from all state supreme courts and courts of appeals, from 1990 to present, updated daily
  • State docket coverage varies by court; for a full list of state docket coverage, click link to the right

Patent Sources

Monitor Suite retrieves information about US patents, US patent applications, US patent assignments, international patents and Patent Cooperation Treaty applications from Westlaw documents, as follows:

  • United States Patents – patents issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) since 1990
  • United States Patents Applications – patent applications published by the USPTO beginning with March 2001
  • United States Patent Assignments – patent assignments recorded with the USPTO since 1990
  • Patent Cooperation Treaty Applications – patent applications filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization pursuant to the Patent Cooperation Treaty since 1990
  • International Patents (coverage through 2013 as follows):
    • EPO Patents – patents issued by the European Patent Office since 1990
    • EPO Patent Applications – patent applications published by the European Patent Office since 1990
    • French Patent Applications – patent applications published by the INPI since 1990
    • German Patents – patents granted by the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) since 1990
    • German Patent Applications – patent applications published by the DPMA since 1990
    • Chinese Patents – Chinese Utility Model patents granted by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of the People's Republic of China since 2007
    • Chinese Patent Applications – patent applications published by the SIPO of the People's Republic of China since 2007
    • Japanese Patents – patents published by the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) since 2005

Trademark Sources

Monitor Suite retrieves information about US trademarks, trademark applications and trademark assignments from Westlaw documents, as follows:

  • United States Trademarks – as derived from TRADEMARKSCAN , trademarks registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) since 1990
  • United States Trademark Applications – as derived from TRADEMARKSCAN, actual use and intent to use, trademark applications filed with the USPTO since 1990
  • United States Trademark Assignments – trademark assignments recorded with the USPTO since 1990

Registration and Prospectuses Sources

Monitor Suite Registration & Prospectuses Profiles present analytical information on securities transactions. Profiles include metrics on deal values, issuers, underwriters, attorneys, law firms and their respective roles.

Information present in Monitor Suite is derived from registrations and prospectuses filed with EDGAR as collected by the Business Law Center on Westlaw. Coverage for Monitor Suite goes back to 1996.

Merger and Acquisition Sources

Monitor Suite Merger & Acquisition data presents analytical information on merger and acquisition transactions from U.S. and International deals involving public and private companies. Includes metrics on targets and acquirors, deal values, and legal counsel. M&A content includes mergers, acquisitions, stake purchases, asset sales and divestitures, rumored and seeking buyer transactions, leveraged buyouts, tender offers, privatizations, spin-offs, repurchases, self-tenders, debt restructurings and bankruptcy liquidations. M&A transactions since 1990 from the following sources:

  • New Related, Comparable and Competing Deals
  • Filings (EDGAR & SEDAR)
  • Precedent Agreements
  • SEC Comment Letters
  • News including company websites

Bonds Sources

Monitor Suite Bonds presents analytical information on abstracts of debt offerings from around the world.  Profiles include metrics on values, issuers, underwriters, law firms, and their respective roles.  Coverage begins in 1990.

Loans Sources

Monitor Suite Loan Transactions data presents analytical information on US and International loan transactions involving public and private companies.  Profiles include metrics on borrowers, loan values, related law firms and lenders.  Loan transaction content includes bilateral and syndicated credit facilities by signed date, borrower, lender, deal terms and/or related parties.  Coverage begins in 1990.

Private Equity Sources

Private Equity is a global coverage database with almost half the investment companies covered domiciled in the United States, a little more than one quarter domiciled in the European Union, and the remainder domiciled in Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East.  Coverage begins in 1990.

Participants include Private Equity Firms and Private Equity Funds who directly invest in Portfolio Companies.  Data element coverage includes investment date, investment amount, type of investment, details on the funds participating in the investment, and the company receiving the investment.

Private Equity source content is derived from data which may contain confidential information not displayed on Monitor Suite.  Monitor Suite results do not include portions of private equity rounds which contain confidential information.
