With the August 2018 update, author Shambie Singer initiated the Eighth Edition, introducing its first three volumes. Volumes 3A-3C cover the application of the rules of statutory interpretation in selected areas of substantive law. Since 2018, the following volumes of the Eighth Edition have been issued: Volume 3 (2020), Volume 2 (2022), and Volume 1A (2025).
Completely rewritten, the Eighth Edition represents over a decade of sustained research and analysis. These new volumes build substantially on Sutherland's venerable, 130-year foundation and framework to reflect the most current doctrinal trends and results.
